This is a excellent lens, fast & sharp, great for sports........however, for hockey you may be shooting too close, especially at 300-400 zoom, unless you want to shoot
very tight. I've used this lens shooting football games [behind the goal line & along the side lines] and got fantastic results. Also, a monopod would
be a big help....this is a heavy lens and the ability to rest between shots is to your advantage. Good luck.
