First time playing with fire with a new Nikon D750. Light gathering capability of this camera, when graduating from a pair of D200s, is awesome!

I'm always mesmerized by the flames. So much dancing about! love the vivid colors.

Thanks Carlysue. It looked a little like artwork to me. That made it stand out to me, compared to other shots I took that night.

I have on countless occasions spent evenings combining bonfires with whatever camera I had at the time, while visiting a friend in Vermont. Its very tricky to say the least. My take was that the fire itself had to be bright enough to get a fast enough shutter speed in order to control the blurring of the flame details. Not too hot because the flames moved too fast. A pretty fine line. The opportunity to do it again has not come up in quite a few years but I would happily drive three hours for another go at it. It's similar to photographing moving water. The things you capture are not available to the eye.

I agree Fergmark. Your statement reminds me of the term "practice" as used in a physician's resume'. Its a lifelong effort in improvement.

Thanks DaveC1. My trusty OLD D200s couldn't do that nearly as well!

In the 1980s l lived next door to a retired airline pilot who as a kid in WWII flew C47s "over the hump." His expression of note was the more grey hair your pilot has the safer you should feel on your flight.
