Not in a position to speak on that. Never had or used the 55-200. I can only say I am critical but budget conscious. If the 50-230 did not satisfy, I would not buy it. That said, I would not spend more money to get a "better" lens with the amount of Telephoto I do use. Also, that said, I have never used any lens approaching 200 or more or covering that range that was good throughout the range. Walk around lenses at any price are always a compromise somewhere in the range, so primes are the only good alternative in 3-4 focal lengths.
When used on APSc, the 50-230 has an angle of view in 35mm of 75 to 300. (More than the 55 by 200)
It's so easy to find good values on zooms, why ask about them. They obviously get dumped on the used market quite regularly.
I would add that I would take a Fujinon lens in any focal length over any other manufacturer, having used Fujinon large format, medium format and digital lenses since the 60's. Nobody builds lenses any more like Fujica/Fujifilm. Particulary Nikon and Canon. Both highly over rated, even the L series.
In terms of reviews, here is a review on the "under rated 50-230.

Concur. And they built an entirely new line of lenses in the last several years. Meanwhile Nikon keeps adding different iterations of the 18-55....
And having used a number of Fuji lenses, I have no reason to purchase anything from Sigma even if they were to make an x mount lens.
I may read this, but I have all the faith in the world that Sigma could not touch the quality of any Fujinon lens from Fujifilm, and could not have for a very long time in the past. I know a number of Large Format photographers who love their Fujinon lenses and use them exclusively.
I also have the XC50-230. Lovely IQ, great value.

I'm sure you're right. I wasn't trying to say that Sigma is better than Fuji, only that Sigma has decided, for whatever reason, not to develop lenses for the X mount. That reason may very well be Sigma's awareness that they can't compete qualitatively with native Fuji lenses. However, I don't know why they'd think to have more success with Micro 4/3 mounts, since Panasonic and Olympus have a glut of high quality glass. Nonetheless, Sigma issued several M43 primes, and they are a little cheaper than the Pan/Oly counterparts, usually.

Sigma, who just rolled out a Sony E line, is supposedly producing Fuji compatible lenses.
Dunno what your name is, but you're supposed to be a mentor in the "Advice from the Pro's" section.
This doesn't need "advice from any pro" ...... but if you're gonna respond please be sure of your facts. You've posted in this forum around 40+ times since you made this statement, but not responded to any of my, or others, "challenges" to come up with credible back-up to your statement, either on this occasion or in the past.
I'm not an argumentative sort .......or in the habit of making this kind of post ...... but you've no credibility at all on this issue with me ..... and I still can find nothing anywhere to support your statement.
Just think about the many (and there are lots of 'em) people considering Fuji ...... how well are you advising them?
