A German bunker at Juno Beach and what the beach looks like from it today. Try to imagine what it was like to cross that massive expanse of beach in the face of murderous machinegun fire.

Pretty frightening thought to contemplate. Your picture brings home the horror it must have been.

I visited the Normandy beaches in 2015. Truly a humbling experience. Nice captures.

These soldiers were all heroes. I can't imagine what that must have been like. I hope we never again have to witness such an event. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Thanks for looking and your comments.
My son and I visited the five beaches of Normandy last summer as well as the cemetery's and battlefields of the First World War. Now those are humbling on an unbelievable scale.

My uncle, mom's side, visited just south and east of there on June 6, 1944. His visit took him to Bastogne in December of the same year. He never talked about it, except once indirectly. I asked him if he'd ever been to Europe. His reply was, "Yeah, once. I didn't like it". The way he replied kept me from inquiring as to why. We just dropped the subject.

Very nice photos, though, on your part.
