Some Humming birds from today.
I finally got what I consider some good shots of humming birds today. I have been trying for a few weekends now and I just couldn't get one to my liking until today. Thanks to a fellow Hogger {DavetheHiker} mentioning he sets up with his camera inside the house and shoots them from inside gave me an idea. I don't have the set-up he has and his pictures are the best I have seen here but this is what I got with my camera.
My equipment was a Cannon T3i, a 300mm lens, tripod, remote control for camera, chair, and a cup of coffee. I also took some sugar water and "baited" my flowers just to keep them there for a couple minutes so I could shoot. Everything is straight from the camera no PP except for a crop is added.
My lens was set at ISO 3200, f/16, Aperture 8 I hope you enjoy C&C welcome.
Hummmm let's see what's in here...
And then there were two...
Do you think you can Dance...
This is how close I could get before cropping above photos
Love love love this image

Great shots Biker_Chic! Well worth the wait and effort. Thanks for posting your settings for the shots. I'll have to try some of those.
Beautiful I love the pictures.
Those are excellent! Sure beats pix taken at a bird feeder like mine are.

For your info, f/16 = Aperture 8 (for this particular lens). Missing info from your Exif: shutter duration = 1/2500-sec.
May I suggest ISO 3200, 1/4000-sec at f/8, which is approximately same exposure, but should freeze hummingbird's wings.
Image below: Hand-held Nikon D5000 at ISO 1000, with Nikkor 55-200 zoom at 200-mm, 1/4000-sec at f/8, full sun.
Allen's Hummingbird (Selasphorus sasin), female.
thx for posting those settings.
I've been working at getting a hummingbird for weeks. No good ones yet. Yours are excellent Nikonian72 and Biker Chic
We only have ruby-throated ones here. Interesting to see other variatries.

Thank you Nikonian72 for your suggestion. I will give that a try for sure. I am just learning what all theses settings do and I appreciate you schooling me on how to say it correctly. I get the information off the properties when I look at them in Picasa 3. Its still somewhat like a foreign language for me. But the more I change them around the better I will understand how they all work together.
Your picture is awesome
Absolutely wonderful !!!! Worth the wait for sure !!!
Thank you for all the nice comments. I find these little guys exciting to try and shoot. I love it when I get a good one.
