There have been lots of Valley of Fire shots posted on UHH over the years. Hopefully these close ups offer some new perspectives.

Valley of Fire really is worth the 1:20 drive northeast of Las Vegas.

Shot with my Galaxy 7 in late February. Thank heaven for good light.

The Valley of Fire was on my bucket list but I didn't make it. The natural sculpturing of rock fascinates me and I especially enjoyed #'s 2 & 3. You did a fine job even without your best camera. Thank you.

I like your perspective in taking this set of images. I have been impressed by the colors and shapes of the landscape in a larger sense; however, have not thought of it in this light. Thanks to you for opening my eyes.

It was interesting how I found it. On our flight into LAS, I noted a large area of red rock well to the east near Lake Mead, so I knew it could not be Red Rock Canyon which was on my todo list for the trip. Thanks to Google Maps satellite, I searched east and up it popped like a sore thumb. I had heard of it before and had even seen some pix but it had not made my todo list...yet. Sure am glad I took the time. It is quite different from Red Rock Canyon (no large Spring Mountains range), but I rate it equal or better if you are into fine layers and different colors...which I am.

Thanks for commenting, Murex.

Many thanks, Swede. It's somewhat like snorkeling. You see the big ones first, but there are some really interesting fish to see if you think "smaller".

Thanks, Jim. You have fabulous castles and cathedrals, and we are blessed with Navajo sandstone (and a lot of other mineral layers.)

Going to Las Vegas in July. I will add it to my day-trip list. My wife will be in a conference. I will be doing day-trips. Any other suggestions on day-trips for photography from anyone?

Very nice job. I've been there 6 times now and it still fascinates me. However, I now know to avoid the place on a nice spring or late fall weekend. Last visit I waited in line for 30 minutes just to pay at the entry booth (now open on both entry roads).
