One of my favorites...
The 'RoughLegged Hawk' is one of my favorites! I have a fascination with raptors and this species just captures my heart. I drive out almost on a daily schedule just to watch them (I must have hundreds of pictures); they will be leaving soon to head back to the Arctic Tundra for breeding...in fact I think most have left as I'm catching fewer each day. They are either 'light' or 'dark' morph; there is a fairly uncommon intermediate morph also. They are one of the three raptors we have that have feathered legs right down to the toes. In the second photo I caught the nictitating membrane covering the eye. Comments welcome...
Looks like he's watching you just as hard as you're watching him. Get the feeling of "Whatta you lookin at?"
An excellent and a very beautiful set!
Really nice work on these.
