Photographed these birds in Evansville, Indiana December 7'th 2017 and have been unable to identify. There were a group of about 6 or 7 together. They appear to be a little smaller than a house sparrow. Thanks in advance.
It might be a Chipping Sparrow. Someone else might come along with a 100% ID.
It is in the Wren family. I thought maybe a Jenny Wren but beak is not long enough.
I believe it's in the sparrow family. Look up Jenny Wren.
These are what I call "field sparrows". I do not know their scientific names. They come to my bird feeder in winter & go back to the field in spring, summer & fall. I live in South Central Texas.
Very good pictures.
Thanks for posting.
Looks very much like a field sparrow.
Looks to me like a tree sparrow. I think they are the first to appear in spring. How are things in Northern Mn?
Looks like a 'Field Sparrow'...pale gray breast with no spots, pinkish bill, no distinct eye bar...but I'm not an expert.
I also believe it is a Field Sparrow.
I never heard of a field sparrow. But every site I went to after seeing this seems to confirm the id. Never to old to learn ... but maybe too old to remember.

I sent the picture to an expert for a positive ID.
Just got the reply from an expert. It is a house sparrow. He is very good, some birds he won't ID a bird unless he hears them.
Good to know BillMn. Looking at pictures of the female House Sparrow...right on!!!
