Yesterday we went to the Grand Canyon. It was a beautiful rainy, cloudy foggy day. I'll be posting some pictures soon, but I have two questions.
1. I have some to stitch together. Do I process them in raw to my liking as individuals first? Or stitch them, and them process them together. I've never stitched before.
2. I'm posting one that I like, but a short branch dominates it and detracts from the picture. I have been trying to remove it, but so far do not like my results. I would be happy for people to give it a shot, or give me advice.

You can do either way in PS. I usually process them in AR first BUT REMEMBER you must batch process them so that what you adjust in one is adjusted in all. That means no gradients or adjustment brushing.

I then stitch them from Bridge and do my final post process in PS.

I've been doing this for a while and I seem to recall that processing them in AR first produced better final results because you are working on individual RAW files whereas the stitched file is not a true RAW file.

Try content aware fill in PS on that branch. Should do a decent job for you and if not, use the clone brush to clean up the result.

Hopefully you shot your series in full manual mode (focus, WB and exposure) otherwise your results will be iffy.

Hope that helps.

I appreciate the advice, I get impatient sometimes and forget that we're dealing with pixels, and have infinite control. If you want to give it a shot, i would like to see other results. I'll post mine soon.

Here you go, spent 5 minutes, less than 20 seconds removing the branch the rest to kick it up a notch. :?

Thank you Robert-photos. I worked on it, too, and it didn't take that long. But I didn't time myself. Thanks for your interest.

In answer to #1. I always stitch first and then edit. How you do it depends on your software. I use Photoshop for the stitching and editing. The articles I have read say to do it that way. If you convert first--use the same conversion settings for all in the Pano.

On the second I did a little different to the edit, I removed the branch in Photoshop, tone mapped in Nik HDR Pro and added some color and raindrops in OnOne Effects. I think all the edits add to the picture and have no favorites. One question is did you use a tripod? Also what were your settings as the tree on the right is out of focus. The composition of the image is great--the trees framing the canyon.

For me by tone mapping the edges and lightening them you destroy the frame of the photo and draw the eye to the edge (and to the out of focus tree) instead of into the canyon. Slightly bringing out the shadow detail there is needed but over doing it IMAO is not.

I did use a tripod. To me the out of focus branch on the right sent the subject back to the canyon, as the tree was not my center of interest. I like your rendition, as well as robert-photos', and his points are noted.

I just installed PS7, (recently given to me by a retired catalog photographer from a major retail chain) and haven't yet played with it (I normally use Picasa) that content aware thing looks like it's magic. Was it as easy as pressing a button once you know what you want to get rid of?
