I was limited in where I could take this picture. So this is the best I could do. But it looks dull and uninteresting. What could/can I do to make it magazine cover ready?

Sorry, but I don't think you can. This thumbnail is a very soft focus, so it all depends on how the orignal looks blown up. You can try and crop it some like I did, and then I ran it through Topaz Adjust.

Get a close up of the girl in the bikini!!
I did not blow this one up further because it would violate the forum's rules.
I agree with Renomike, focus is not very good. I did add a little contrast which is all I can do to help, it made the water blue. Good luck, but not a magazine cover in my opinion.
I agree with everyone else. In addition, in my experience, cover shots tend to be portrait orientation. So, IMHO, this is a nice memory shot, but not a cover shot.

Tex...If you want to show a full size photo, check the "Store Original" box before you upload. All photos uploaded are reduced in size, and compressed for the forum. You are only limited to a certain amount of megabytes per upload at one time.

See by your avatar that you have been through Johnson City.
First off, level the horizon!
Shoot on a day with no haze.
And at a time of day so a polarizing filter will give you an even deeper blue sky & water. Or, during the 'golden hour' near sunrise or sunset.
Maybe a more 'interesting' foreground item(s). . . than the railing & what look like boat davits.
A good shot, regardless.
Any more from your trip?
Level the beach line
crop to eliminate unused beach
clone out rail - dark spot in corner by steps & red spot in background house
adjust brightness/contrast
adjust hue/saturation
add drop shadow frame
JMHO
French Beach reworked with CS4
Thanks.
Little adjustments, big difference
Jim
