Most tripods can have the heads change easily. The heads screw on with either 1/4 20 or a 3/8 thread, If your new head is 3/8 as some heads are you can get an adapter from 1/4 to 3/8 so you can connect them. The heavy duty heads are usually 3/8 and some lighter duty tripods are 1/4 hence the need or an adaptor.

If you go to Slikusa.com and look at the manual for this tripod, you will see that they describe removing the head. They also show the head as a separate available part. Other web sites show videos of removing the head. Lock the center post and twist it off counter clockwise looking down on it.

Ron, I have a Slik U212 with a new Manfrotto head that I just recently had installed without a problem. For some reason I, too, thought it couldn’t be replaced but my husband changed it without much effort. It works fine.

Go to the RRS website and order a BH-40 or BH-55 head and a reducer bushing that adapts your 1/4” stud to the 3/8” threads inside the RRS heads.

STAINLESS REDUCER BUSHING, 3/8"-16 TO 1/4"-20

I actually like the post mount. Because of the post mount, one can actually change the which axis is where. The single handle release controls two axes while the post lock-down lever allows rotational control of that axis.

I just got a Benro V2E ball head (26 # load) that I like a lot. It has a Arca Swiss clamp and comes with a 60mm plate and the reducer screw to convert its 3/8" screw hole to 1/4". If you don't need something that heavy, the V0E (17 # load) would be a good choice.
