How NOT to clean a filter....
Just had another of those 'nothing wrong with me.....wrong with me.....wrong with me moments'. Well, it happened the other day and I've just finished damage control, sigh...
I'd recently used my camera and when I came in I noticed the filter needed a little tlc. I took it off and set it on the counter with the lens cleaner and micofibre cloth to give it some attention.
Fast forward and hour or two and there's this amazing photo op outside. I swoop up the camera, grab the filter, give it a quick spritz and I'm polishing furiously as I run out the door. But, wait a moment, that filter is awfully streaky? Polish, polish, polish and take another look. What that heck?!! And slowly the penny drops. Oh shittake mushroom!! That wasn't lens cleaner I used. Nope, I'd grabbed up a bottle of my dog's liquid bandage spray I purchased for his razor burned private parts!! I'd also placed that bottle on the end of the counter so that I could return it to the pet shop cos, ironically, the pump action sprayer wasn't working. Now I know how to make it work - just point it where you don't want it to spray!
That stuff really took a lot of effort to get if off the glass. Needless to say I'm awaiting my next photo op as the last one didn't quite work out.
I use ONLY Zeiss Lens cleaning wipes... Works quick and great....
To funny. Never get disrtrcted when clening your equipment.
Still, not near as bad using Prep H by mistake....

There is still photography, without filters you know. My little potshot camera can't even use filters, but that does not stop me from using it.
Next time, you might try your wife's hairspray. That should be a fun time, trying to get that off a filter. :)

I'll be sure to keep that stuff away from "my equipment." By the way, does your dog shave "down there"?

Yes, but only in summer and supposedly not a 'close shave', lol.

No filter photography works, of course, but when I realised what I'd done my enthusiasm dropped like a souffle in a draft.
Did you know you can use hairspray for removing ink off clothes?? That stuff is even scarier that Liquid Bandage! I'll be avoiding that like the plague.
At least it was only a filter and not on the lens!!

Onquest. Innit annoying to do things like that. Similar situation (just not photography. Late client came to my hair salon before her dinner/dance. I was quiet beforehand and decided to clean and polish the worktops. You guessed it. Instead of finishing the hairdo with laquer...I picked up the spray polish I'd left on the worktop. Managed to shamppo and do her again just in time for her to sit down to dinner... I now remove anything that's not a hairdressing product from my work station :-) Your poor dog got more sympathy in my mind than your filter....sorree LOLL.

And I...sprayed my underarms with hairspray instead of deodorant. Wondered if my deodorant was getting too old because it felt so sticky! Aaarrrgggghhhhh!
Great to start the day laughing out loud. Thanks for that. Are any of you old enough to have used your brother's Brylcream instead of toothpaste?
