I purchased this Sony pocket camera because of its size, EO popup viewfinder and 30x zoom. I love all those features and the IQ is good too, so it's an ideal camera to walk around with when circumstances aren't right for my heavier gear. That said, frequently when shooting people, particularly closeup and medium distance shots, I'm getting distortion/stretching at the edges. I've been unable to find references to this problem online so I wonder whether anyone monitoring UH has this camera and experiences the same problem. The attached image demonstrates what my problem is. Both men are distorted.
Typical for compact pocket cameras with extended zoom range. Try shooting with other than the widest angle. In other words, always zoom in a little. This should reduce the image corner distortion you mentioned.
Perhaps you set the image format to 16x9? That might stretch the images to fill the frame instead of cropping the image? Not sure. On my A6500 16x9 crops the image resulting in no stretching but less pixels than the native sensor images which are 4x3. Try shooting RAW if available and see how they look.
