I sent a message to rmalarz and it turns out he is quite busy this week. He was very excited about winning last week; but he is finding it difficult to find the time to search his archives for something suitable. I totally understand that, so he asked if I could post something instead. That is how I came to this image of the Ausable River. I shot this with my Hasselblad using Tri-X film. There is a link to img286.tif which is quite large and I believe you can download from the link below. You can also use the jpeg that I've posted here.
As always, feel free to download the image and edit any way you want. I thought it would be fun to post a black and white image. Maybe someone wants to go the other way and convert it to color? Whatever you decide. Since we are a bit slow getting started, I thought it might me ok if we kept the edits open until Friday. It takes longer to edit than to vote. So, take your time and enter up until 9 pm or so on Friday. Then I will open it up for voting. Sorry about the delay, hope you have fun with this file.
Here is a dropbox link that has the original TIF file if you want to mess with it:

Pretty lost on this one. I like a lot of things about the original. But I gave it a stab anyway.

You made it pop. Nicely done. I think the major flaw in the original photo is that it is missing a well defined white and black point. You fixed that and the result is very nice. Well done.

Thanks, Erich. I gave it a try anyway. There's a lot of PP talent around so hopefully we'll see some good stuff.
B&W's a nice change. (Couldn't access the tif).

Well it will be snowing for the next 12 hours or so. What a better way to fight cabin fever than to work on this photo.
Since we're always changing color to B&W, I decided I'd us this exercise to turn a B&W photo back to color. So here's my entry, a take on contemporary impressionism ...

Glad you liked working on a B&W. I like what you did.

You managed a nice "old photo" look with this edit. I think it works really well.

I knew someone would be up to the challenge. You're just the person for the job. The word vibrant comes to mind. I'm impressed.

Thanks Erich, glad you like what I came up with.

Thanks, deer2ker, I appreciate that!
Don't know what happened to this. Thought I posted it earlier.

I never thought of putting a vignette around that image. I think it is a great idea. Sometimes a light vignette is a bit over the top; but I think it works here. Nice work.
