Amazon has 8GB Flash Memory Card for $ 0.40 each would this have a longer shelf life then dvd for backing up photos

The reviews I looked at for this were somewhat sketchy. Some worked some didn't. It also looks like they are making their $ with the shipping. ($4.99 to ship one and 24.95 to ship 6 pieces, give me a break) I am very leary of anyone who advertises crazy low price and gouges on shipping.

I think you've "hit the nail on the head" regarding relative costs of buying and shipping. A good rule of thumb on things like this is to go with well known brands.
