In every forum I subscribe to and still follow, it seems there's dissent between experience, newbies..and the ever present trolls. So, here is a little of what I have learned.
I have learned to have a thick skin. Its required if you want to learn, and not just get "atta boy's"
I have learned iso, f, lens, shutter speed, sooc, raw, jpeg, differences in cameras, etc. But mostly, I've learned MY FAULTS.
I have learned to listen to my harshest critics, they all taught me something. Constructive critique, even if seemingly harsh, is just a chance to grow.
I have learned to say thanks to the cranky old Photogs, ignore the trolls, share what I know with the newbies.
And enjoy our mutual hobby, pursuit, or job.
Thanks everyone, especially Court Roberts. My best mentor so far. And the Queen, for the time and letting me spend the money on the best equipment we can afford.

There are good, bad, indifferent folks everywhere, and truth be told I have on occasion been all three. (but not at the same time). That said. I have tried many other photo forums but UHH is the friendliest, most helpful, easiest to use of all of them. Lotsa of very helpful members here. I have used a camera for over 5 decades, and with UHH members help, one of these days I will learn how to do it right.
Wrong site.... Photo.Net has a critique section called "Shark Tank" where the critiques are expected to be brutal. No pats on the back over there.
I wouldn't expect a site like UHH which lies about it's enrollment numbers to be as forthcoming. In other words don't expect change here.
As boberic says, it's hard not to join the crowd here in all manner of discourteous behavior. A friend of mine once said to me about a work place. "The problem here is like a pit full of Crabs.... as soon as anyone nears the top and freedom, another crawls up the backs of the others and pulls him back into the PIT!"

A critique can be blunt and inartful but there's never a reason to get personal about it. Some people either have no class or they go out of their way to be obnoxious. I put the bad ones on the old ignore list. I've noticed I'm on someone else's. I guess turnaround is fair play.

This forum have professional photographers, intermediate level, and just your amateurs/hobbyists. Me. It was said within the past year, by a uhh member, there are 60,000+ uhh members on this forum. If there are that many, I assume most are just readers, not participants. But, comments on this forum, aren't always friendly. I found that out about 2 weeks after I became a member. Brutal criticism can be very helpful. Insults not so much. Even, if helpful.

LOL, as long as it stays free for us participants, we shouldn't look too closely.
Home page today says "total number of users 84126." However, accounts cannot be deleted by a user + you will find hundreds of user names that have posted zero comments, or a single comment, or who last posted in 2011 or 2012. Pm me if you're curious about how to confirm this

There is a registration number that lists over 30,000 members. I look at the numbers of on line members every time I log in. The numbers on line at any given time are always around 300 to 400. Hmmm!???
Does the registration number include everyone who has ever looked or inquired on UHH. Mysterious with the numbers.?????
Do nasty; snide; terse; disparaging; or sarcastic remarks benefit anyone other than the poster?
Hey, Kuzano - how do you know UHH lies about subscriber numbers?

Corrected numbers on the UHH "fake news" about membership.
Todays figure on total users is over 86,000 as of today.
Today's figure on "current users on line, as it now appears.... 255 users.
This kind of astronomical difference has been going on the whole time I have been on UHH.
If only 200 to a max of 500 that I have seen currently on line, where are the other nearly 90,000?
Great topic for "Main Photography Discussion" section.
