Just bought a Sony A7Riii. Before spending more $'s on lens, I rented a Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS to see if it's the lens I want. It's the one retailing at around $1,300.00. Very disappointed in the quality of the pictures no matter what settings I put the camera on or if I was shooting inside or outside. I also rented a Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E Mount T Smart Adapter IV to use my son's Canon lenses. I put his Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 lens on the Sony and the pictures were outstanding. Great color and detail. I think the lens (new) retails for around $800.00. Also got the same great results using his rather inexpensive Canon 50mm lens. Wondering if anyone has experienced rather poor results with their Sony 24-105mm lens or if perhaps the lens the store rented me is bad? Thanks.

I am very interested in your report as I have pre-ordered the a 7 III and am considering the 24 - 105. I read that some of those lenses were being recalled. The link to that info is here: Check on Sony 24 – 105 G lens to see if there is a recall: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/compatibility.pl?comp_project_id=18

Hope this helps, Keep us posted. thanks

I have been very pleased with the quality of images that I have been getting with my Sony A7Riii / Sony 24-105mm Combo. It is the most versatile of any of the lenses I own! I have no complaints regarding the sharpness, color, detail, etc. of this lens. (Attached is a shot I took earlier this week with this combo.)

I have the FE 24-105 on my A7Rii. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I had been using the Sony Zeiss 24-70 and noticed an improvement immediately. The 24-105 has caused me to rethink my future lens wish list. My only concern is that it is quite large and heavy even though it is smaller and lighter than any of it equivalent competitors.

However, I seem to have a bit of a problem in Cont Auto-focus mode. It finds focus, but then sort of 'shudders' before settling down. There is a firmware upgrade for this lens on the Sony site. I haven't bothered to download it yet because I mostly use single focus which isin't effected.

I believe the recall was for a different focus matter and only effected the first batch of lenses. The Sony site has a link to put in your serial number to see if you have an effected lens.
