I grew up camping. Every year we went camping - a week was a short time. Learned to cook on a camp fire and do all things necessary to make a nice camp. Since I've been married.. we have tried to go camping every year. My daughters new boyfriend is unduly impressed with our camping "gear".. We still go camping however in the last 7 years we have rented a trailer or mini motor home 4 times... tent camped the last two yrs.. now its a big family affair.. all cousins and anyone invited --.. fun

Here's my camping coffee....For supper you make up a big pot. This pot should be big enough to hold three days of coffee. It gets better with time and a cigar butt or some ashes enhance it fine. THis recipe comes from the days of cattle drives, back in the time of Charles Goodnight

UUU YUP!!! My great aunt used to make what she called "cowboy " - jest threw a handful of grounds in the bottom of the pot and when it starts boiling out the spout - its ready....

She was a widow and she and I lived together for a while - we traveled for about a month once and she wanted to camp out - so we had the gear and every night she would think of some excuse to stay in a motel or hotel. One early morning we were in Wy and they were having a cattle drive - had to stop the car and wait for the herd to cross the road. She got out and actually wrangled us an invite to breakfast at the chuckwagon !!! so off down a two track dirt road we went (in my VW Bug Convertible) Had the BEST time... and those cowboys were so much fun!!!

What a wonderful memory..... I had a vw convertible....

No Way!!! mine was a nice soft mint green with a tan top and interior... 1963 !! loved that car..bought it used after some idiot made an illegal left hand turn in front of me and totaled my 1959 Chevy Bel-Air...

Mine was a 63.... Grey with a grey top..... The gas gauge didn't work, but it was really easy to push....lol

Just to clarify...... I was way too young to drive it in 63...... I didn't own it until the late 80's,early 90's

Ooohhh and here I was thinking we were closer in age!?! I didn't own mine either until 1970... BUT I was driving in 1963...barely....

Boondocking

You know you are boondocking when :

1. There is no one else around you.
2. Nature calls, you answer and don’t check to see if anyone is watching.
3. Your daily hot water shower is when you strip down and jump in and don’t care if anyone is watching.
4. You run a trout line at night.
5. You eat trout for breakfast.
6. The only other vehicles you have seen in a week are eight quads ( mebbe the same one eight times) and five pickups.
7. You ran out of beer three days ago.
8. Your bowl of berries is always full.
9. You forgot your razor and it doesn’t matter.
10. Your biggest chore is hauling water.
11. Your campfire and the sunset are called ‘’Don’ git no betta’ than this, dude’’.
12. After sunset, you hit the hay.
13. You don’t know what day it is.
14. You don’t care either.
15. On a rainy day, you sleep.
16. Last night’s spaghetti re-heated is not a bad meal.
17. Cruising the dirt roads during the afternoon is a way of life.
18. You slept outside last night.
19. You wash your dishes with sand.
20. AND the BEST………You can hear the silence.

Now my brother-in-law, owner and operator of a big rig considers it boondocking when:

1. There’s not enough amperage to run all his accessories at the same time.
2. He has no cable connection.
3. His cell phone is in a ‘’dead’’ zone.
4. He cannot get a daily paper.
5. He ran out of propane for his BBQ.
6. On rainy days, he and his wife hold Scrabble Tournaments.
7. Exploring is riding around his 5-star campground on a bike checking out all the other big rigs.
8. He is next to a Class B, and therefore does not talk to them.
9. He has to take a shower at the campground and gripes because he is paying fifty bucks a day and the showers are metered.
10. He does not re-heat last night’s spaghetti.
11. His best camping friends are snowbirds and they too do not have cable connections.
12. The campground does not have a golf course.
13. Bingo Nite is the hi-light of the week.
14. They go into town to eat at a restaurant midway through their stay.
15. Hearing silence is when the neighbours’ kids are sleeping or off to the pool and the generator is shut down.
Boondocking br br You know you are boondocking wh... (show quote)

I love to camp but haven't done it for a few years. Nothing like that morning chill and the first cup of coffee and scrambed eggs and bacon over an open fire. Here are a couple of pix from an unusual camping trip about 3 years ago.

You camped with elephants? Now THAT is exciting

Camping with elephants could be fun, after all you won't have to bring trunks

Alyn, when you post a comment back to someone click on the "Quote Reply" instead of just the "Reply". Otherwise no one and especially the one you are replying to doesn't know who you have replied to with your comment.
