From last night's Pro Rodeo Cowboys of America show. Lots of action.
Interesting evening playing in manual mode with mostly wide open with ISO variations. What was bright to the naked eye was dim to the EF 100-400 Canon 1:4.5 tele. (D5 M iv) 1/90, 32000iso, f5.6. Cropped to about 60% of frame.
Many more to follow as time permits.

Challenges of the situation: lighting only fair. Action fast.
There were only a few of more than 1,000 shots that I even wanted to work with. Biggest problem was focus. I should have experimented with more options. Mostly I shot M and IS was turned off (overlooked). Depth of field was minimal. I guess, as long as I had all this ISO to work with I should have moved to F8 and dealt with it... Anything slower than 1/1000 had too much blurr.
Composition wasn't bad. Terrible backgrounds with all the banners. The bulls never moved far from the chutes to get out in the open. My location was decent for most of the action. If I stayed seated I got hats in the foreground. I moved up to the aisle behind us and that helped. No one complained about my swinging the 100-400 around.
Lots learned. Looking forward to a rodeo outdoors with better light. Was a fun evening.
Note: all these finished images were about 40m so I had to reduce them quite a bit to upload.
