I like #1 even though in #2 the door is more near a golden section line. In #2, that wall on the bottom foreground blocks off the door and it's distracting and desn't add anything. I want to go in that door and that wall is stopping me! In #1 I feel like I can stroll right in.
The second image gives me a better sense of place for the building that is the key feature.

Agreed. Question: Do the buildings lean or is my eyeball drooping? I would make sure of the verticality of the lines unless, that is, they were built by the same people who used to live in Pisa.
Thanks all. I am going to go with number 2. Good insight from everyone. Nice being able to throw out a photo question and not receive mean criticism. Constructive criticism is what this site is about.
