I think that might be overstated. Some may have it, and from what I have heard it really drains the battery. gps4cam ran a full day on my iPhone with no problem. It worked anywhere in the world without requiring phone carrier service.

Just need to lengthen then time between position logs. Few photographers need to update anymore than every 15 to 30 minutes unless you are in a plane or screaming across the savannas of Africa in a LandRover or whatever.

For severeal I've been using Geotag Photos Pro for Ios. I think there is also a free version. Works great when importing to LR.

I think the free part is that you get 3 free trip logs to try out the software, and then you have to pay to unlock the app.

I use GPS Tracks which works very well on my iPhone. I import the gpx file into Lightroom Map module.

You can also email the gpx file to yourself. No other software is required. You import the file to Lightroom.

I don't use LR, so I would use the free desktop app from the developer. However, I would still have to have access to phone service or WiFi to send myself an email with the gpx file, and I often travel to places where I don't have phone access, sometimes for weeks. The beauty of gps4cam was that the track data was available as a QR code on the phone and all I had to do was photograph the phone screen. This had a second advantage in that the camera time stamp on the photo of the QR code may have been different from the time stamp embedded within the QR code when it was generated, so the software knew the amount of time correction to apply to the photos. It really was a great program, cheaper than Geotag Photos Pro, and worked totally independently anywhere without needing cell phone carrier service or WiFi.

PROGRESS... I think.

I found a web item that mentioned the old gps4cam iPhone app (black icon) does not work with iOS 11 but the new "salmon" icon version does. I downloaded it from iTunes and it does seem to launch, but the free Lite version only provides the first 30 minutes of a trip. I have contacted the developer via direct email now to see if they will waive the cost of the new software for me since I had paid for the Pro version before, and I think the upgrade should be free. If not, I may just pay the $5.49 and be done with it.

Earlier I had been trying to contact the developer via message from the "contact" tab on their webpage but had not received any response (as BobHartung noted). Maybe a direct email will get a response.

FWIW, I really think gps4cam with its QR code trip data download is an excellent way to go. For LR users, the desktop software will generate a gpx file from the QR data, so nothing lost there.
