Got a strange one. Ever had an SD card not read or work on camera and work just fine on your computer? I first thought it was the camera till I pulled a card out of another camera and it read. Then I tried the bad card in a different camera and it wouldn't read. I just pulled the photos off the card with my desktop where it works. I am so confused. lol

My understanding is you need to format it in the camera. Then the camera will read it and it will work in the computer. That is the experience I had.

Yes, I’ve seen this when someone formatted a card on one brand/age/model of camera instead of his own (different brand/age/model) camera.

He reformatted it in his camera and it worked fine.

Why??? Yes, the card format is standard, but there are FAT16, FAT32, and ExFAT standards. And different camera companies use different, proprietary file folder structures, or write special configuration data on a card when it is formatted. Then there are SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards...

It was formated in a video camera and when I put it in the camera it wont read it so I can reformat it in the camera. I did pull the videos off it in the computer and reformatted it in the computer.

Never format on the computer. Insert the card in the camera, on your menu find format and ....ignore the can't read fault unless it persists after formatting.

I have taken pictures with one Nikon and put the card in a different model Nikon and both will read on the computer as different files. They will only read on the camera they were taken with. _ Dave

I suggest you format it in a computer with this utility - then try it in your camera.

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

If it still doesn't work, but other cards do, then toss it. If no cards work, then keep the cards, toss the camera.

All kidding aside - if your camera has a problem with it's card reader it can probably be fixed.

First get everything you want to keep onto the computer.

If it won’t work after formatting in camera, try some contact cleaner and let it dry overnight.

Thanks, that's worth the effort.

As beeN previously said format in camera. Taking pictures with one Nikon camera another Nikon couldn’t see the photos without changing a setting in the camera. Also I recommend reading the manual.

Ignore the can't read error and format anyway. It can't "read" because it is not in the proper format. As long as you get a green light when inserting.

Could it be that the locking slider has moved to the lock position?

I have had this happen when I edited a photo on the computer, saved the edited version back to the card and then put the card in the camera. The camera would not read the files. I had to use the computer.
