Yorktown was the location of the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. The National Park service has done a remarkable job preserving and restoring this area. There are countless informational signs that give quite a history lesson if you take the time to read. One leaves with a much better idea of the time period, the major war tactics used, and a more intimate understanding of the contributions made by the famous names in our history books!

Very nice series of images. And, a great history lesson. Many U.S. citizens have little, if any, appreciation and respect for what the original immigrants to this continent went through to secure their freedom from the British rule. Thanks for posting and have a GREAT DAY!

Christy, thank you for sharing some remarkable photographs, and a well written explanation! We get down to Yorktown and Williamsburg area every couple of years, and it's always enlightening to learn more about our history.
Thanks again.

Nice set Christy and thanks for sharing.
Wow...what a great series. Well done.
Very interesting read. Particularly since I recently found out that a direct ancestor of mine "John Day" came over from Wales in 1634 at age 30 and was indentured for 2 years to pay for passage. After that he and 100 of his friends went into the wilds to found Hartford, Ct. In that line was a Day and 5 of his sons that were all lost in battles of the War of Independence. The youngest son was only 13 as a soldier.
We just have no idea the sacrifice that our forefathers went thru to give us this fantastic country.
Thank you all! There is a very somber feeling as you walk through the area. That happens once the realization of what happened there hits you. Everyone was so quiet as they read the info signs, showing their respect.

Nice photos and a very informative history lesson on the birth of our nation.
Sorry about stepping on your toes, Doddy. And no .... finders keepers, we are keeping the cannons!!
Nicely done. I visited there a few years back. It's a huge place, and I enjoyed every inch.
