Hi there, here are a couple of bird photographs I took from my kayak. It was hard not banging the pipe the pelican was on, but my kayak is pretty stable---not many waves this day, more a problem with currents. These are small versions of the photos, both shot with a Sl1 and 70-300 USM lens. I am hoping you will take your less expensive camera with you and try to get some of the shots you want. I love your owl photos. I have been hearing one in my yard at night, but I haven't been able to find it yet with my camera.

Thanks Selene...yes I'll be taking the lesser camera with me. Love your pics...our Snowy is still here. I'm getting worried it's not going to find it's way back to the tundra is it doesn't get out of here soon!
Thanks for the message.

There seems to be various camera covers that claim to be waterproof on the internet. I have zero experience with any but I think if I were taking high value equipment I would seriously investigate one. Even the less expensive ones if I were to attempt such an adventure.

I have taken my Sony HX400v innertubing and kayaking on small smooth streams. After dunking that camera when I tripped while walking across a stream, I bought a Nikon P900 and have taken that kayaking. The main problem is keeping your hands dry after paddling, then grabbing the camera. Keeping the camera in a dry bag is a must, but you have to take it out and touch the buttons to take the picture. Any water on your fingers will get into the camera. I kept a towel handy to dry my hands. Having a long zoom camera is great because you see so much from the kayak that you won't get to see on the shore....but it happens so fast that you only have seconds to get the shot. Getting a shot of a wood duck or a Canada goose family as you come around a corner is amazing, but they usually fly off before I can get the camera ready. Seeing a beaver, muskrat, or snapping turtle is great, also. The best, is coming around a corner and seeing a deer grazing on the hillside next to the river. I got that one.
