I have been seeing references to stabilizers for smartphones, and wonder if anyone has an opinion as to which one might be the best?

For phones there are some simple spring loaded clamps which have a 1/4 thread you can use them on selfy sticks and tripods.
For my ipad I found a frame with a mount with a 1/4 thread i've used that with a quick release plate on my tripod , although currently its on a light stand along with a boom holding a zoom h1 and doing music stand duty with my midi keyboard.
It's great fun along with synthesia to learn to play. I have the camera connection kit and a usb midi interface. I also use a 3.5 stereo jack lead which lets me feed in backing music into the keyboard. You can use it for all sorts even a video teleprompter.
I do Zillow video walk throughs using Dji Osmo mobile, a gyroscopic bluetooth stabilizer along with a wide angle lens and case to attach lens to phone from Moment. Very smooth walking. I paid $199 for stabilzer and want to buy the Osmo Mobile II for $129 as soon as available as it will be improved. The downside is the stabilizer won't operate below freezing. There are additional brands at Fry's electronics and Best Buy.

Every selfie stick I've seen (including those found at dollar stores) has a detachable clamp that can be screwed onto a tripod. Purchasing a separate clamp is not necessary.
Plus, the selfie stick itself can be utilized as a monopod.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
And you'look really fab too. >Alan
If you are not taking a selfie, I have a very easy suggestion. A piece of string. Get a piece long enough to loop around your neck. Tie the ends together. Extend the phone until the loop tightens. Make sure your elbows are against your body. That will give you good stability. Use a rubber band to keep the string neet. Good luck.

Yours is a beautifully simple (and very economical) analog solution. I use the same technique with the
camera strap on my DSLR. And if I can find a wall to lean against, I am in hog heaven.
That is where I got my idea.
