Out in my yard during a break between showers and clouds my potted Star of Bethlehem plants are starting to bloom.
Notice these are ORANGE - so orange I had to tone them down in PP or they would have been orange blobs with no details showing.
These are stacked images. For scale, these flowers are under 1" in diameter.
1. 80D, Tamron 180 macro+ Kenko Pro 300 1.4x = 252, 1/500 @ f/5.6, ISO 320 bright sunlight, hand held
2. 80D, Tamron 180 macro, 1/400 @ f/18, ISO 2000 hazy sunlight, hand held
3. 80D, Tamron 180 macro, 1/400 @ f/16, ISO 1600 hazy sunlight, hand held

I like these a lot. Nice job and nice focus stacking work. What program are you using for the stacking and blending and how many stacked pictures did it take?

I understand reds are a big problem. I wasn't aware that orange is also a problem color, interesting. I recently, and by accident, found that if I set my Nikon D810 on Vivid color my reds are much more accurate and easer to work with. I see you are using a Canon so not sure if you have this saturation/color option to try.

I thought your ISO results were interesting but confusing. As a rule of thumb when ISO moves up so does the noise. No 2 has less noise than No 3 and No 2 has lower ISO than 3. Might be the reason is more noise reduction was applied to No 2 with ISO 1600?

I used Photo Shop CC. #1 8 shots, #2 4 shots, #3 16 shots #1 was on Monday and 2&3 on Tuesday. I hand held and leaned in with the focus fixed and did multiple bursts of different lengths and picked the sets that came out the best. Yes, too lazy to lug the tripod and macro rig out in the backyard. And yes,
probably a lot of un-needed frames in #3 but I used them anyway.

I understand reds are a big problem. I wasn't aware that orange is also a problem color, interesting. Yellow is also a problem, in fact any flowers with one even bright color and translucent petals, no sharply defined edges and features when partly back lit like these flowers. Yes, Canon has those settings, but they don't matter since I use RAW only.

I thought your ISO results were interesting but confusing. As a rule of thumb when ISO moves up so does the noise. No 2 has less noise than No 3 and No 2 has lower ISO than 3. Might be the reason is more noise reduction was applied to No 2 with ISO 1600?
I used an auto setting on noise reduction, same setting on both 2 & 3 - but I used only 4 frames on #2 vs the 16 for #3. Then I varied the PP to see what would happen, notice the background etc is darker in #2. I tend to work like that, just play around with the sliders etc to see what happens until I either give up or get something I like. Often it will be the same adjustments but balance differently. Example, more saturation and less vibrance then reverse it to see if I like one result better than the other. I may also try bringing up details on something like these flowers with highlight reduction, then try it with clarity or even the haze filter to see what result I like best. I often don't record the steps, just keep them in mind for the future, or throw the notes away after a day or so to prevent the weight of note pages from collapsing my desk. I just remembered, on #2 I did noise reduction last. On #3 I adjusted some stuff after noise reduction so that must have re-introduced the noise to some degree.

Thanks for your detailed answers. I was discussing your pictures with a good photography friend of mine this morning and we came to the conclusion that probably No 3 had the shadows and blacks opened up more causing the increase in noise.

More or less, just fiddling with the sliders to see what happened and I posted it because some people like light/bright pictures when it comes to flowers.
