I need to resize my pictures in order to download them to various sites. I.E. entering in to online photo contests. Some sites say the picture cannot be any larger than 2MB or 5MB. My question is how do I resize a picture and not lose any content?

What format are you shooting in. convert it to JPEG if you are shooting in RAW or decrease the size of the picture (go from 8 x 10 to 5 x 7 or 4 x 6)

Go to www.faststone.org and download the free photo resizer 3.1. Works great and is fast, lots of options. Gary

The short answer is, you don't. You'll lose something in image quality, but it may not be particularly noticeable.

How you go about it depends on the software you're using. In Photoshop, you can go to Image -> Image size... and check the box to Resample Image. Then you can alter one of the dimensions (pixel size or document size) and see how large the resulting image will be.

You can also save a copy as a JPEG and select a scale from 1-12, and after a second or so, you'll see an estimate of the final size.

When done, save as a copy, open it and check the quality. You may find you have to make some adjustments in the original image and go through the process again.

Ok lovinCO, there are a lot of help out here on UHH if you could let us know the software that you are using, as it
is not always the same with different programs.

In checking on this, it only works for Windows, not Mac.
