White Crack is located along the White Rim Trail in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands Nat'l Park. Extremely popular with mountain bikers and backcountry campers, most who go typically spend 3 to 5 days to complete the 110 mile 4WD loop. White Crack itself is at the southern-most tip of the loop, and is named for one of the few places where its possible to descend to river level, some thousand feet below. This view is looking westerly, and shows Ekker Butte (on the other side of the Green River, in the Maze District) on the horizon, while an isolated thundershower passed by late one September afternoon.
Really nice work and good fortune was with you.

Wow, talk about localized storm.
Neat!
Gorgeous. Excellent timing. If it is 1,000 feet down, do they have to go back up again?

Either that or they have to start swimming. (Below the Confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers there is a sign: 'Dangerous Rapids Ahead.' That would be a warning for Cataract Canyon, and even at low water, its no joke. At high water, the occasional death occurs.) I've only hiked the several miles down to the river once, but the River crew knew to meet me, and we motored home up the Colorado.
