Didn't have much time to take photos since I also had to have the wife's car serviced. When I got home, I noticed this gal hovering about the quince, so I grabbed a few happy snaps.

They are a fun easy target.
Enjoy

Oh my these are beautiful. I would be curious to know what shutter speed you were using to stop hummingbird wings mid flight.

David, Easy is a person's perspective. We do not have any hummers up here and will not have any until mid April. For 5-6 months of the year we are without any and we only have one specie that is common up here, the Ruby Throated one. I love your photo and am awaiting their return.

How beautiful, David, and especially on the downloads. I'm watching and waiting for our first Ruby-throated of the season to appear.

I love hummies and quinces, but our quince blooms in late feb. and early march
before the hummingbirds get here. love your shots, david.

Thank you for the kind words.
The camera was set on A with the aperture set at 4. I set the minimum shutter speed at 2500/sec, but many of the captures were @ 3,000/sec, that is why there is a small amount of blurr with shots captured during mid-wingbeat, while the images with the wings up all the way, or down, were quite sharp. I let the ISO just do it's thing with a cap at 800.

These were actually in my yard. The other yard has the feeder. my wife planted over 200 variety of plants in our yard to attract butterflies and hummingbirds, amongst other things. The trick with planting is not only knowing what an animal feeds on, but with butterflies, having the host plant for the larval stage(caterpillar) to feed adds additional habitat for species to stay loker and breed in the yard if possible.

Thank you merrytexan. The hummers here love the pink variety, but don't seem to have much interest in the red quince at all. The sparrows are the same. They eat the pink and white blossoms, but totally ignore the red.
