Nikon Flash Repair

I've been using a Nikon SB800 flash with my D800 camera and have been very pleased with it. It now needs repair (not flashing at all - and yes, I tried fresh batteries).

Any suggestions of a good repair service that will provide an estimate before beginning work? Thanks.

Could be the contacts between the flash and camera need cleaning. Not sure how best to do this. Maybe others can help.

So the flash won't fire with the test button on the back either? Does it sound like it is charging? You could try cleaning all the metal contacts with some contact cleaner, but if you still have no luck, see if there is a local repair shop and have them take a look. Alternately, is there is a good local photo shop near you that sells Nikon? There may be someone there who has some knowledge of the flash, and know what the issue is. If all else fails, off to Nikon.

I found this by looking on the NikonUSA web site: https://www.nikonusa.com/en/service-and-support/nikon-authorized-repair-list.page

I have used Authorized Photo Service

They are an authorized Nikon Repair service. They have given me rough estimates over the phone.

Yep, Authorized Photo Service in Morton Grove are fair and good! I have been using them for 20+ years. On a SB-800, you probably need a new flash tube. I have had two replaced on two different strobes.
I have a D300 there right now for cleaning and to be used as a back up camera. I will pick up a another D7200 at Xmas when the price, hopefully, drops $200 as it did last Xmas.
Go to Authorized Photo.

You could ask rjriggins11 from the forum here. He does camera and lens repair (and a good job too). I don't know if he does flash but it wouldn't hurt to ask. He also has a website. http://www.discountcamerarepair.com/
I just used him and I'm sure he saved me some $$ as the warranty had run out on my lens.
