Canon 7D buttons sticking

The buttons on my camera slightly stick, instead of a smooth release and popup. Not sure if fine dust, pollen, taking beach photos in salt air, and other factors have caused this.
Does anyone have a safe technique for cleaning around them?

It is called a qualified repair tech.
Yes, I know you want to DIY. My wife is the same way when I insist on having someone who knows what they are doing do something.

Send it in for a cleaning. Probably something on your fingers got into the grooves. Have you ever looked at a computer keyboard that hasn't been cleaned in a while?

Since is "buttons" plural, it sounds like dirt.

Being at the beach with a camera can introduce a lot of different things that will cause buttons to stick... anything from salt water spray to sand can be swirling around if it's windy enough.

When I am in rough conditions or at the beach, I take precautions to protect my equipment from the environment as much as possible. Professional cleaning recommended for best results in any case. I send mine to CPS for cleaning on a scheduled rotation.
