Well, got my camera back from cleaning reoair and update, and did not check the settings. Spent a whole day getting anaxing photos....jpg only. My bad for not checking. Not a total loss, but certainly not what I wanted. I moticed I have an HDR on or off setting on my camera. Right now it id off. Any advantage to having it on?
Research HDR and its uses. Not a feature for all your photography needs, but great for extremely contrasty lighting situations. I have a Nikon DF. It also has HDR feature and I find it useful for milking details out of landscape and nature settings. HDR basicly does what Ansel Adams zone system did for exposure.
Most of the problems in photography can be solved by applying my R&P 3 formula. Read and practice, read and practice, read and practice.
Hmmm. May have helped me get some foreground detals in my desert sunset last night.
I'm not a fan of HDR in general, but in-camera HDR is a bad idea IMO. If you're going to do it, bracket your shots a stop apart and then use dedicated HDR software to combine the images. This way, at least you'll have some control over the process.
Also, for future reference, you can save your settings so you don't have to redo everything if your camera ever needs repair again. Check out the first tip on the video below, it goes over it in detail.

Same thing happened to me after a Nikon firmware update. AutoISO, which I never use, was turned on. It wasn't a problem until I was trying to shoot buildings at night, and could not get ISO to change. It's only then when I noticed the AutoISO indication in the top LCD screen.
That is why I download my settings prior to sending my camera for service or installing firmware
