A few yrs back my son-in-law as a paramedic needed to attend fire fighting academy. Here are some photos of his night training. Sorry to say, there are no lens info to post other then it was a Canon 40D but I don't remember which lens. Wish I knew then what I have learned regarding night photos from UHH. Oh well, next time. Well thanks for that. I spent over 30 years as a professional firefighter. That last frame is one one of the riskiest, if not the riskiest of all things a FF may do in their career, at least when its a propane tank. Only did that once and by then I was a Command officer so it wasn't me up at the tank. I was in the background giving the orders but it was no fun for any of us. Its actually quite rare to need to do that but every FF learns it and drills on the technique throughout their career, just in case. This was like old home week for me. Retired several years now. Thanks again for the memories.

I too spent a little time as a firefighter....13yrs.....i can still remember my class B training fire and how I was second on the line and the nozzleman went down, the scariest second of my "career " luckily we had a top notch safety officer who pulled the emergency shutoff before we got enveloped by gas

Great shots! Only did one night training and only one actual "incident". Put out an electrical fire on a power pole. Power was out, but no one else would pick up the nozzle (am an electrical engineer). At 75, still on my refinery fire team and relish the training (1081 industrial exterior). The team tries to give "gramps" the easy tasks, but the nozzle is the most fun. The propane is scary, even on a training set. You've encouraged me to try to shoot some imaginative shots at the next training rotation. THANKS.... John

In my 45th year as a Vol. FF. and the best fun is to be at the nozzle. Have done the propane tank fire 6 or 7 times and the sound of the pop-off valve opening still makes everyone JUMP. 39 years as an EMT. and 13 years professional medic service, sub-contracted to Med Flight. On the wall of our fire house is a sign that says,

"The best thing an old fire-fighter can teach a young fire-fighter is how to be an "old " fire-fighter. Be safe my brothers !!!
