Hi Everyone, I guess I qualify as a "lurker" but I have learned so much from all of you and find this a wonderful site for learning from the experts. Here is my most pressing question as my hubby is getting after me to get rid of some things taking up space. I have about 4 film cameras and a large assortment of lenses and other equipment. Is there a market for this type of photographic equipment and if so, where would you recommend I turn to sell this equipment? I'm not registered on eBay so that's not an option right now. Thank you so much for any help you an give me.

Mostly, you will not have much luck. Some may have an appeal to some collectors and I did sell some at a garage sale recently. You may watch for and run an ad in your local paper but I would not spend much if anything to do so. Ads placed in different local business locations where allowed may work - either way you won't be out of anything but a little time. Ask at any photo store -they may know of someone that has an interest.

Hmmmm, thanks, that's about what I thought. I just did a quick computer search and find Adorma buys used gear.
Do they buy film or mostly the newer digital. Is there a market for lenses?

Pretty much the same respones in regard to lenses. I have used B&H Photo out of New York which does have a used camera department but you you will not get rich - you need to only call to get a quote if any. They are more into selling used then buying so the price difference is wide.

the reality is the prices for film equipment has preety much bottomed out. it all depends on what type of equipment. used lecias and hasselblands still retain value. used minolta maxxumms or film cannons dont. you could list them here see if anyone is interested. or if you know a kid who is interested in strsrting out in photography you could give your stuff away.

I sure wish I was good enough to have and be able to use a Hassabland (sp?) :) I like your idea about giving them away. Anyone know of a deserving kid who wants to shoot film? I'll list the lenses later when I have time to dig them all out. I think there are some good lenses. I love this site and all the interaction.

If there is a college near you that offers photography courses, you might try there. It seems that a lot of those courses require film shooting, although I don't understand why LOL. Probably because it's a good way to learn the initial basics.

I have 4x5 gear that is like my best friends for life.
How can one give up on such a trusted and respected object?
Even if I haven't actually shot them in years, they really
should'nt just sit in some dark closet to rot. The Linhof
is so big and strong, the Graflex press camera is an Icon.
Now I'm all digital and not even a year old at it but I can say that my photography has exploded since. Way to go Nikon.

Most large Camera tores will buy used film cameras and flah and acessories. Just dont feel tobad about what they will give for them. The market has really dried up for film cameras, so the prices are low. consider this, I have a Minolta 700si, Minolta 9xi, 2 Milonta 5400he flases.
you can get all of this for around 450.00 on amazon or most camera stores now. all my equipment at like new condition and i was quoted 75.00 for them. I have gone to the local stores and online and they differ around 10%

Just leting you know.

May God Bless :-)

Try http://www.equipmentlady.com/. She's a world renowned wildlife photographer who has an equipment business to help sellers sell and buyers find deals. I've sold lots of stuff through her. Laurie is a neighbor in Tigard, OR.

Check KEH camera out of Atlanta, GA. You can E-mail or fax them a description of your items for sale. They can give you a ballpark figure but the actual cash value will depend on thier actually having the items for inspection. You can try B&H or Adaorama in NY.. I can personally attest to thier credibility and professionalism . Perhaps other forum readers may be able to suggest alternatitives, however the used film camera market is drying up as stated but not yet dead. You may be lucky and either trade it in or sell it on E-Bay. Be forewarned it may not fetch as much as you desire. At some point you may have to cut your losses and run. Hope This Helps !!!
