Nope. Just go to this sites sister forum... Knitting Paradise, and you'll find more posts about yarn "stash" than you can read.
Some yarns arent cheap, either... some yarn is $26 a skein x 2 for a pair of socks.. But, it's hand spun and dyed, then I get to spend a few (many, cause I'm a slow knitter) knitting the socks.
Othe yarns can be more, or way less.
Kinda like cameras and lenses. I think I have about $1000 or so in knitting needles, and just spent $300 on a set of crochet hooks. Dont even want to know how, much I've got in yarns....

So... now I think I'll get a 1.2 or 2 extender lens for my Canon 6D. Still cheaper than a $2000 lens.
Personally, still befuddled by all the controls, I think film was easier. Set the film speed, decide on shutter speed and apature, focus, and snap!
That's 4 things compared to all the buttons and menus on the 6D.....
maybe I'll make a flowchart....

Sounds like you would be happier in full manual mode. Set the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Forget all the other fluff. Simply.

Actually, think of all those camera controls like all the different crochet hooks and knitting needles. Each one has a specific purpose. Maybe that will help.

I find myself wishing that my wife would take up an expensive hobby ... then my wishes to spend money on photo gear (or woodworking equipment, or stuff for the motorcycle, or ...) would not be met with raised eyebrows. Unfortunately, no signs of anything happening in this regard :(

My wife already has an expensive hobby, it's called SHOPPING. She doesn't go to the store because she needs something, she goes to the store because she needs to go shopping.

I don't think it's only a guy thing. All I have to do is look at my wife's credit card statement, it puts my hobbies to shame. We now have a big package drop box by our front door and the UPS and FedEx drivers have all their trucks set for autopilot with our address plugged in. Lol

Tex,

I have a legit question......about 8 months into learning to play the guitar I got shingles. Oddly, the rubbing of my dreadnought against my side appears to have caused it. 2 yrs later, even 5 minutes on the dread causes the “shocks” to start up.

Can you recommend a decent (price and sound) mini so I can start up playing/learning again?

Thanks.

Cykdelic, I played dreadnoughts until a few years ago. Martin 000 and 0M body sizes are very popular guitars with amateur builders and very comfortable. I always used a strap to sit and play with a dread, I was able to shift all that bulk off to the side. No strap needed with the smaller bodies. Martin, Gibson and the other majors all have entry level acoustics made overseas. Entry level instruments have NEVER been better. Not too long ago getting a solid timber top on a cheap guitar was a big deal, now its almost standard. Look for end grain growth rings around the soundhole. Cort offers all timber instruments for under AD$ 1000, many others do as well. Most likely MUCH cheaper in the US. I played a used 0M size Tanglewood in a pawn shop yesterday, I really liked it, $300 dollars, solid top, laminated body, good build quality, more than acceptable tone and volume for me. These people don't use the terms 000 or 0M but that's what they are. I hope this helps.

It does, and thanks. I really enjoyed learning, but the shingles wa PAINFUL, to say the least. I may try renting a mini for a few weeks to make sure it doesn’t aggravate it. 😎

Own and play many guitars and Amps. Acoustic, flamenco, electric. Some original vintage from the 60's and early 70's. American, British (Amps), Spainish, Bulgarian, & Asian made. All range from very good to superb quality. Pretty satisfied now , but will never stop looking. Too much fun.

My weak link is a tube amp. I'm building a Telecaster with broadcaster pickups and I'm going to NEED one. I'm looking at a reissue 5 watt Fender Champ. If I need more volume(unlikely) I'll mic it. My mate keeps saying we'll build a couple of champs but that never happens.

Episode 5: Bill Frisell - this is long, skip around, he puts the tele tone front and center.

Oh and I need a couple of prime lenses for my Sony A7. I've been getting by for the last year with the kit lens.
