AMA reacts to negative press regarding drones

The AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) has spoken out about the latest reports of drone incidents involving other aircraft. The biggest black eye to the hobby is the pilot who knowingly breaks the rules or maybe is ignorant of the rules. It should be pretty easy to understand that you don't fly near civilian or military aircraft. The FAA has an app listing No Fly Zones. It's called B4UFly and it's free. I have it on my phone and tablet.

Yes, the idiots among us don't help with the public perception of drones! Like anything else, if they're used by responsible people there is no problem... However, when it comes to drones it does seem there are a lot of totally irresponsible people!!

It's a hot topic for the media right now. If there's a negative story to be found they'll run with it. Since guns are so evil might as well consider drones evil. The only problem is that neither are evil. It's the idiots using them that are the problem.

I use Airmap for a guide to NFZ information.

I'll check it out. I spotted one error in B4UFly right away. I went to a location where I'd flown a few years ago and it was listed as NFZ. It's an old county airport that hasn't seen an aircraft in probably in 20 years. It's now used as a staging area for FEMA trailers. There must be thousands of them out there. It could be that it's listed as a NFZ because the county jail is nearby.
