Tonight I whipped up some fake ice and took a juicy and icy commercial beverage shot for the portfolio.

That looks great but for just one thing. There's no ice or anything in the upper part of the photo. I think the viewer would be expecting to see something there - maybe more ice or the inside of a cooler. Coolers usually have a white interior. That would give the photo a background but at the same time it would not be distracting.
I think you did a excellent job in how you placed the can and the vantage point you used.
This is just my take on it. I don't have experience with product photography, so I might be wrong.
Thanks! The portion with no background is negative space for ad copy, which is typical.
