Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not with State Farm, but I'll check with my agent. I suspect I will have to reveal what I paid for my gear which will not go down well with my wife.

That is what is concerning me about Nikon I would like to switch from canon but I am afraid to by used products. Canon will at least clean, updates and repair grey market gear. Decision decisions. 😫😫😫😫

I have had great success with Nikon's repair service and because I am extremely hard on equipment I have used their services quite a few times. I feel I have been well and timely served at reasonable prices.

Just to put some balance into this discussion, I switched to Pentax after I was let down by two consecutive Canon Rebels; each had problems - probably processor - before it died completely and I consigned it to the county dump. The first one had a total shutter count of 3552 and the second 800. As it turns out, the Pentax camera I got, a K-30, is believed to have an abnormally high failure rate of the aperture control hardware, but it is up to 2694 today and still working {I remain a low volume shooter - this is after almost three years}; at least its besetting weakness is not fatal .... I could use lenses with aperture control rings if/when this failure occurs.

I have two older Canon Rebels, each with a shutter count of over 50K. Both still work fine and have never needed service. I also have a Canon 60D with over 75K and a Canon 7D Mark II which is nearing a 100K shutter count. All are still going strong. Your experience was very unfortunate and obviously very frustrating for you, but it was far from typical.

Next time get a Canon T7I and be set for LIFE! Team it with a Sigma 18-250 and Canon 10-18 and be worry free. Best place to get it is Greentoe.com!

Set for "LIFE"? That assumes you wouldn't expect to live very long.

Canon wi service Gray Market but charge and not honor Gray Market Warranty PS they also sell parts to non company good service centers.

Actually, at their discretion, it seems that Canon has occasionally serviced grey market gear under warranty. The policy regarding why and when doesn't seem clear but over the years many people have reported examples of it.

I bought a refurb D7100 because I didn’t think that a D7200 was worth a few hundred dollars more for some minor (for me, anyway) additional or improved features. The D7100 suits me just fine. I really don’t need anything more than a D90, but the deal I got for the refurb D7100 was less than a new (if you could find one) D90.

By the way, as for the D7100 being “two generations back”, a professional photographer for the Los Angeles Times newspaper, Mike Meadows, still uses a D80 with a Tamron 18-270. So, it goes to show that one does not need top-of-the-line cutting edge gear to get the great shots.

Photography is all about understanding composition and the use of light. A camera and lens is merely a tool to that end. A great photographer can get great images in a variety of situations with far less than the best equipment available. However, the best equipment in the right hands can result in superior images. Whether a news photographer always needs that added level of visual quality, as opposed to the flexibility of a super zoom lens, is a separate issue.

B & H is a reputable Jewish owned and operated company, closing and observing every Jewish holiday. Not being Jewish, I personally think Jews are the best business people we have. It was a compliment to identify them as reputable and smart...they are! Lighten up Rastus...everyone is so offended these days.

I am not trying to get into an argument with you, but whether or not you intended it, your statement is racist. Do you refer to every non-jewish firm as a Christian firm, or a Muslim firm, or a Buddhist firm, or a black firm or a white firm?

Part of the definition of racism is "the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races." Your statement above clearly fits that definition even though you personally may not harbor any ill will towards the Jewish people.

Racism is not just about hate, it's also about differentiation, generalization, and the perception one has of groups of people based solely on their ethnic background.
