The mirror on my D200 stays stuck in the up position.
I've contacted numerous repair places with mixed results.
Some say the parts are no longer available.
A couple says they can fix it.
One says that they will fix it for $120.
San Jose Camera has one for sale for $250.
Question is: Should I have it fixed?
I would suggest you replace. A 12 y/o digital camera is long in the tooth.

I'd have to agree that you should look into something newer. That could be used if that's what the budget allows. I've shopped at San Jose Camera years ago and remember that they often have some nice used gear. You could always check their price on KEH.com, but buying locally does have its advantages. Best of luck.
Sammy's in LA. Was able to fix a 1972 Canon F1 for me. If you decide to throw it away, send it to me and I will send it to Sammy's.

I recommend getting something newer and selling it on Ebay as a parts camera. Repairing such an old camera is always a gamble.

If you're not in a hurry. I would wait for a sale at San Jose Camera where they pay the tax and offer Nikon Bonus bucks. They have them every couple of months.
If you can't wait, ask for Chris he's the owner and talk to him about getting a better price on the used D200. Just know that camera is a bit out dated.
I sold my D200 to a friend and I dont know if he is still using it.
My former son-in-law has my D70 and he cranks out pretty good photos.
Don't think he really understands the camera but he has a good eye.
Buy a new camera. Or a good used camera. Enjoy.

Sell it on eBay "as-is" for parts. Describe the problem and start the auction at $1.00. You will do very good this way.
My D40 also has the shutter stuck up. (Why do they do this??) I'm looking at getting another for $70 rather than fix it. The D40 is one of the few cameras that will synch at 1/500th sec., and I like the large pixels and small file sizes.
Authorized Photo Service (APS) out of Morton Groove, Illinois, is a reputable, Nikon authorized repair station and they only do Nikon gear.
Give them a call and see what they have to say. Their repairs are of excellent quality and the turn around fast.
$120 today is nothing when it comes to repair photographic equipment.

If you have the budget, I would say replace it with something newer. There have been many enhancement to DSLR’s since the D200 came out; take advantage of the newer technology. If you opt to fix this problem, what is the likelihood something else could go wrong with the D200 in the near future. Clearly your call, but a replacement would be my choice.
If I were in your shoes, I would replace.
