I am asking you all to send out a prayer for my friend Don Jacks he was a Vietnam vet who took his life this last week I am very sad this happened he was a good man and a great musician. Don and I were in different branches him in the Army me in Navy, we met at a ptsd meeting many years ago and became good friends, of that group I am now the only living member the most of the others took their own life, only 3 died of natural causes. Don got a hold of me 5 years ago to ask me how well I was doing with medical marijuana as a treatment for my ptsd and some of my pain, after I told him how it was helping me so much more than the ever changing cock-tale of drugs the VA was pushing on us he tried it and started doing better he started dating my sister in law 2 1/2 years ago she disapproved of the use of medical marijuana and he stopped using it last year. I am a firm believer in medical marijuana and its many healing uses I believe that it has kept me from going the route of my friends, of the group I was in there all but 3 of us killed themselves. It greatly saddens me that so many have gone the suicide route I know only to well how hard it is to live with the images of that place and the things we had to do to survive we were trained to be stronger than most in mind and body but we were not trained how to cope with life after the fact I pray that you folks coming out of the war-zone today can hang in there and help make it possible that someday no one has to be like us. Thank you all and especially thank all of you who served.

My condolences to your friend and his family. My brother served in the Army and in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. He was with the 199 LIB & 18th military police.
Wishing you the best in this time of trial. Wishing the best for him too, as this life is not the end.
I also was Navy but I was lucky never having to see actual combat. I did see somethings here and there as a plane exploded after it went off the flight deck on the side of the ship. (It missed the landing cable, if I remember right.) I was right there but no metal hit me. That was the worst thing that ever happened to me during my time in the service. I realize that many people went through much, much worse. My brother was also a marine during the Vietnam war and he did see action.
Sorry if I have wasted your time telling you all, this, I just want to wish you the best in this time of trial.

No waste of time thank you for the story I was a combat photographer Naval Intel, went on recon constantly mostly Danang and north but was on 2 ops in the delta, the worst was Quang Tri we were almost trapped when it was lost then we had to go back in later when the assault finally recaptured the city and Hue we were up in the north section and were almost cut off my runner was killed and I was wounded there that was probably the scariest moment of my life, I live those moments every night and much of the day. God was and is on my side I guess its a worse fight dealing with this than the battles were.

I am sorry of the loss of your friend. I hope he is happy and at peace.
So sorry, and life is very fragile!
once strangers, forever brothers. so sorry about your friend. I am still dealing with depression, PTSD, or whatever they call it. people think that all the years since the war will somehow remove the memories and nightmares we still have.
