I need to repair my Nikon 14-24 2.8 Lens. I also see that Sigma has announced their new lense at $1,299. Aside from price, does anyone have any experience with the Sigma? Art are typically good lenses but I am Nikon guy and wonder if I should venture to Sigma Art.

Sigma Art Lenses are very good, I think that I would definitely do a little research, you may find it will outperform the Nikon. I think that it is too soon to find reviews on this lens however. Sigma is turning the OEM manufacturers on their heads with their new lens lineup, their new lines often outperform both Canon and Nikon.

With Sigma coming out at 1/3 less $$ one would have to give it considerable consideration. I think you would have to look at a print for each one at 200 to 300% to decide the better one but still a close call. Me, I would just send your Nikon off for repair, financially it would be the better decision. A new lens doesn't mean it would outlast your Nikon repaired one.

BTW I have the Nikon 14-24 and wouldn't consider exchanging it out for the Sigma or anything else.

No experience with the 14-24, but I've shot with nothing but my three Art primes (24, 50 & 85) since acquiring them. They are a joy to use.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Sigma's ART lenses. I have several and believe the outperform OEM lenses all the time.

This topic goes way back to film days. Sigma, even then, made excellent lenses that tested (optically) as well or better than those from Nikon, which I use, at a much lower price. They were also generally smaller and lighter, which I liked but worried some Nikonians as to durability. I first heard about the ART series from Sigma from rgrenaderphoto, whose opinions I have come to trust. Since then, many others have sung their praises. Personally, I don't need a new lens (I have 22 at present that I still use). But if I did, I would certainly give the ART lens serious consideration.

Thanks all for your opinions. I will wait to see what Nikon repair says about warranty coverage. I have spent over $135k on Nikon gear over the last 6 years and have never had an issue. If they come back to me with anything other than a thank you and a warranty repair, I will switch to the Sigma and see how I like it. I am sure it’s a great lens and the price is compelling.

You might want to check out the Tamron 15-30 2.8, lots of excellent reviews that show it has surpassed the Nikon, especially in the corners plus it has VC. I made the switch and have no regrets.

I have several Sigma ART lenses and I consider them all excellent. I am impressed with Sigma's new lenses. I own, and regularly use, the Nikon 14-24. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Period. Not sure how anyone could give you an opinion on this new Sigma lens as it is not yet available. Best of luck.

I sold my Nikon 14-24 to buy the Tamron 15-30 and haven’t looked back. It is a little sharper on the edges than the Nikon.

I agree, and the Tamron does not vignette as much as the Nikon. Fast, silent, accurate AF, VC and it costs less. The Nikon was a great lens 5 years ago and still is a very good lens but there are better options now.

Repair it. It is an excellent lens and is made by Nikon for Nikon cameras.
