I have been to a nature trail in my town several times to try to get shots of a Barred Owl. I have seen the owl at least 20 times and haven't got one shot of it before it takes off. Yesterday, I had to puppy sit for my daughter who recently got an 9 week old Yellow Lab. I thought the owl may find some interest in the puppy. I found the owl and tied the puppy's leash to my ankle. The dog yipped a couple times playfully and the owl stayed in place long enough for 164 pictures. My daughter was a little angry with me though.

That pup has the somewhat heavy brow, shorter thick snout and heavy bones of hunting stock. Great looking critter. Nice job on the owl, btw. Glad you finally conned it into cooperating.

Aren't you glad he didn't take the bait?

Nice shots, you might lighten the eyes in post processing a little, however that is just what I would do.

Sweet! How does the puppy compare in size to the owl? Small enough for an owl meal?

Thank you very much. The lab is just a baby but I did notice her eye balling the squirrels in the yard already. I'm sure she'll try to cull the herd in a few months. Gary

Anything within reason to get the shot, and that’s a great-looking puppy.
