I built and put up this new box, and while doing so a pair of blue birds were perched on a tree limb not far from me, and when I stepped off my ladder one of them lit on the box. I put my tools up and grabbed my camera and they were already hauling nesting material, it was less than 10 minutes. I did have an old box there that I was replacing but it was completely empty when I took it down. I had never seen them claim a box so quick. Notice the straw in its beak.

Interesting that they moved in so quickly and were apparently waiting for the open house to put their bid in, so to speak. Sometimes it takes days to get visitors when I put the feeders back out here, nice job, great capture.

Nice shot, both the bluebird and the box. What a great idea putting the metal ring around the hole so the squirrels don't chew the hole out larger and ruin the box for the blue birds.

I agree with this comment that that is a nice picture. And the story
shows that you now have something to watch through the coming
year with maybe both a cup of coffee and camera in hand.
I, too, have to rebuild our birdhouse, and will also try a metal ring
to keep the squirrels out. I had thought of that in the past, but
was not sure the birds would accept it. Certainly worth a try . . .

Great apartments are hard to come by. They were smart to watch the construction and move fast!
