I like this hybrid Iris a lot. I have been calling them "Siberian iris" but I think I am wrong about that.

Mike, Superb Capture! Super sharp and great color.
I've always heard them called Japanese Iris, but that is hearsay also.
I call them market irises and have been unable to find any so far this year. What a beautiful image, Mike! Do you think they could possibly be Blue Flag irises...the blue version of the Yellow Flag iris?

Blue flags are common in the wild here, and I am pretty familiar with them. I think these "market" iris are what they call "Dutch Iris" - technically
Iris × hollandica - a hybrid. Yellow flags are European, though they have escaped gardens and spread, while Blue flags are native in the US.
From Wikipedia:
Iris × hollandica, commonly known as the Dutch iris, is a hybrid iris developed from species native to Portugal, Spain and North Africa (
Iris tingitana ×
Iris xiphium).
The wild ones are the blue form, I think, but many colors have been bred for the florist trade.
Siberian iris -
Iris sibirica - is different, although it too has been bred into many color forms.

The rich color and graceful form of this flower against the black background make the shot a delight to see! Well executed.
Beautifully composed and photographed, Mike.
Nice shot!
We always called them Japanese Iris, but who knows?
Excellent. Sharp and colorful.

Thanks, John.
I guess there are close to 300 species, mostly from northern temperate regions - Japan, China, Russia, Europe and North Africa, North America - and tens of thousands of hybrids and cultivars.
