I'm not just talking about Professionals, but many of us had someone who sparked the interest within us. As long as I can remember, my Father and oldest Brother took pictures of family, and the Ski Mountains in Aspen Colorado. My brother even had one on the cover of Ski Magazine. I've always looked at what he would post since computers came along, and still love his captures of animals and scenery. SO who got you started, maybe a magazine, a book, a friend, or family? Tell us your story!

With me it was a sound, the sound of the click followed by the automatic wind on of the film, even though I never had a film camera that would do that,I had to wait untill i retired
to get a camera that would make the clicking sound i wanted so much and then it was a digital a200.I had never heard of Ansell Adams or any of the others i hear spoken about on the hogg with such reverence,so for me no names just a sound.

With me, it was the magic of developing the film and then seeing a picture magically appear on a piece of paper after putting it into a tray of liguid.... I was a fasinated 15 year old living on an Island in that glorious photogenic land called Alaska...

That's a tough one....;0) I've had some sort of camera since the time I was about 5 years old, and that goes back a long ways. That was just an old Kodak box camera too, so I guess I'd have to say my parents, as they must have given it to me.

Interesting question.

I’ve always had a camera since I was a kid. No slrs back then, just couldn’t afford them. Even as a kid, I dreamed of being a photographer. In my teens, I lusted after my grandfathers’ Canon. I picked up all sorts of photography mags and read them over and over again.

I was captivated by the images in those magazines and imagined that some day I might be just as good. So you could say that I was inspired by photogs that I never met, and whose names I have long ago forgotten.

My daughter inspired me. When she was born I couldn't put the camera down. Today she turns 5 and I still have the same passion i had 5 years ago. Although most of my picture include he; I am venturing out in other areas. Hope you all will visit my threads and provide feed back. I hunger for your opinions and suggestions.

photography has been a part of my day job for the last 10 years...so you might say it was forced on me. never cared for it. a couple of years ago, it peaked my interest and i have fell in love it ever since. now i cannot learn enough fast enough.....i am 60 so i have to cram alot of learning in what time i do have left!!!

inspiration has also come from this forum. people have been very nice and ready to share their expertise. i learned the relationship between exposure, shutter speed and iso off this forum. seen it, read it, went to a few seminars...and it was explained perfectly on this site and it clicked for me. this forum is also full of subtle hints in almost every thread.

Dad was a professional photographer for Ferris State University, he got me started. Also the fact that I had all this creativity but sucked at painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery or any other artform other than photography. Dad was the same way. His parents were artists and so were his grandparents.

No one.

I took pictures with my parents camera (can't remember what it was)since I was about 12, then I was given a Kodak Disc camera as a graduation gift over 30 years ago; not long after that my brother gave me his Canon AE1 Program. And I've had many different cameras since then.

When I was little, a camera was like a time machine, stopping time the instant you press the shutter button. Then digital cameras came along and really heightend my curiosity. Still love to fool around all types of cameras.... point&shoot, bridge and DSLR's

No one inspired me. I was the recipient of a used Brownie with a crack in it. Me and the Brownie started a long relationship. Though the Brownie is long behind me, the relationship with photography is still very alive within me.

Hugh Heffner ;) Just kidding. I always kind of wished that I had taken it up, but was always way too busy. About 4 years ago, I bought a camera. About 3 years ago I decided to learn how to use it properly. I'm still in the process of that.

I used to steal my dad's polaroid camera when I was a kid and use up all the film! HE finally got smart and bought me a 110. In Highschool I got a "real SLR"; Cannon AE1. I went digital a few years ago and learn new things everytime I shoot and process. I hahve always liked nature and histoy. Old photos of the Civil War and WW2 still factinate me.
