Panasonic Service

Anyone here sent their equipment into Panasonic for service or repair? When you access the closest service center (via the Panasonic site) you are able to describe your problem and print shipping instructions and a shipping label (not prepaid). There are no estimated costs provided. I'm assuming that when they receive the equipment and look it over they then provide an estimated cost. I'm further assuming (lots of assumptions here on my part) that there is a minimum charge for looking over the equipment .

For anyone that has sent their equipment to Panasonic am I right? What has the turn around time been? Have you been happy with the service, turn around time, costs?

I use Olympus and Panasonic lenses. None of my Panasonic lenses ever required service.
A few years ago I called them for advise on a G1 and to my surprise they told me they would charge me a fee for the advise because the camera was old.
Has anybody here or elsewhere been charged a fee because advise on an old camera was needed?

I was able to contact the service center and got many of my questions answered. Funny about that :) Anyway there is a minimal charge to look over the lens (75.00) and if it needs repairs they were able to quote the average cost of repairs for my lens. The Panasonic site is a bit screwy - they want information and then that information has to be printed or written out by hand to place in the box. Apparently the information filled out on the web is not accessible to them- huh?? Anyway a minor irritation- I did not get any information on their turn around time- probably not possible for them to guesstimate that without knowing the problem. Makes sense.

I've not had to have anything Panasonic fixed (yet). I did have to send in a Sony camera once and the procedure and costs were similar.
