Years ago when I purchased an Epson 2200 I had very good results printing photos on canvas through Photoshop. I recall many trial and error iterations to get the proper setting, but once I did find the recipe I was very pleased. I haven’t done this for some time and cannot recall the printer/Photoshop settings. I don’t have the same energy to put the time and effort in again, so if anyone has some thoughts on the subject I would be very grateful.

You might check with the canvas manufacturer. If you are talking about a product made for photo printing on, definitely contact the company. If you mean canvas for actual oil painting you are kinda on your own. You might also ask Canon or Epson.

Canon PRO printers print on textures quite well, I have not noticed any fancy tricks needed.

I am experimenting with canvas. I got mine from Red River Paper. They have both a heavy art paper with canvas pattern and actual canvas. They also have custom ICC profiles for my Canon Pro-100 and they have profiles for Epson printers also. An article I once read and have lost track of stated that the profile for the canvas pattern paper makes a good start point if they don't have the exact profile for your printer and that paper.

I love Red River paper & since I do a lot of digital art I always buy the Aurora Art Natural.I have never purchased any canvas to print on but since I to have the Canon Pro-100 I will have to consider looking into that.May I ask do you print photos or art work on the canvas?

Photos

If you use custom settings and feed from the rear the Pro-100 will go to wider (but shorter) prints. I bought a 13"x20' roll and will cut it myself.

Pro-100 Custom sizes:
automatic feed tray:

Minimum size: 3.50 x 5.00 inches (89.0 x 127.0 mm)

- Maximum size: 12.95 x 26.61 inches (329.0 x 676.0 mm)

manual feed tray: (rear of printer-remove cover and feed)

- Minimum size: 8.00 x 10.00 inches (203.2 x 254.0 mm)

- Maximum size: 14.00 x 23.00 inches (355.6 x 584.2 mm)

I checked both Michael's and Hobby Lobby for stretching and mounting canvas:
Michael's need 1-1.5 inch margin to stretch and mount and aprx $52 at my local store
Hobby Lobby need 1/2-3/4 inch margin and aprx $58 to stretch and mount.

So through the front tray (and getting it stretched and mounted at Hobby Lobby) I could print an 11 or 12" by 24.5 or 25" image on a piece of 13x26" canvas

Of course adding a frame can go up to ????

Forgot, I print photos, but often if I have an image I like but the focus is a bit off I will process to get a painting or illustrator type look which covers up the lack of tack sharp focus. So I guess in effect I do print "paintings". I also sometimes process for "false color".
Here are two shots one of each type and the "real color" image the false color came from.

If you are printing out of Photoshop, you are limited to the printer profiles that installed with your printer. For the Canon Pro-100, this is the standard list of Canon's papers. For truly good prints, using fine art papers, you have to load the paper manufacturer's profiles. Which makes a real difference when printing to canvas papers.

Mostly likely I will continue to use my fine art papers. How do I get the paper manufacture’s profiles to load?Does Red River explain how to do this?

Red River has instructions.
I use Precision Colors* ink refilling system and they also have custom profiles for a variety of papers, including most Red River papers. To the point of different profiles for different lighting conditions.

*Precision Colors ink is made by Image Specialists-a supplier of ink to OEM cartridge makers and the commercial printing industry. They say that many of their inks (depends on which printer they are for) meet the "museum quality" specs when used with the right papers and properly displayed.

Look here: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz9YXaSulpM90vC24lmAeZA this the starting point for "Jtoolman" aka Jose Rodriguez, he has tutorials and reviews for many printers, inks, papers, printing in general and a ton of stuff on the Pro-100.

Most of the major paper manufacturers will have an explanation of how to download and install their profiles.

I can’t comment as to Windows machines, but with Macs running OS X, you need to move the ICC profile file to the profiles folder. Users > User (you) > Library > Color Sync > Profiles.

This is the same process for all third party papers, canvas or not.

Same process for Windows apps.
