I am pleased my wife has taken an interest in my hobby. She just took this shot from our hotel room in Aruba. I said I would post. Please give honest criticism or comments as it will help her understand better than myself trying to.

Rick, the focus is sharp and the exposure is pretty good. Additionally, it's pretty squared up, based on the wall of the hotel. The ocean horizon is a bit unlevel, but a lot of that can be take care of in processing. I have a feeling this is a photo taken by simply putting the camera to eye and snapping the shutter. A few seconds taken with the very basic concepts of the composition will get her going along the right path.

Thank you Bob I will share any comments with her. She will appreciate honest criticism from someone other than myself.

I am encouraging her as I believe it is something we can share. Opinions from strangers definitely will help. Thank you for responding

It shows a scene well enough. The ocean horizon line I noticed as I see was already commented on (I don't want to admit to the number of photos I have to straighten in post!). Taking the photo at a time of day where the light is even across it would have been better, although it is not too distracting. Keep encouraging!

Like Bob said, just straighten the horizon.

from the thumbnail posted it looks good. It really helps to store the original so we can really see.

My wife and I have gone out on Photography safari in many places over the past twenty years.
We have greatly enjoyed the times spent togather.
Great fun and many memories.

Several comments about straightening the horizon.
I'm sorry but I don't quite agree with that. If you straighten the horizon, you'll also have to straighten the line formed by the balconies. It just so happens that the right hand corner of the building is just about in the centre of the photo and looks perfectly vertical. Which tells me that the distortion is caused by the lens, not by the camera being held at some angle.
If you straighten the horizon (by using the straightening tool), the building will look out of whack. If you have some skills with the Transform tools, that may be one way to go.
But I'd say: leave the photo as is.

I appreciate your feedback. I will show her the lens profile correction tool in LR and see what it does. Photo was shot with my old D3 and 28-300 NIKON lens. If it helps fine if not I can teach her how to undo.

Get out of program or auto mode, and investigate manual and the Sunny 16 Rule.
