Hi, I am going to buy a full frame 28 to 300mm lens for Canon 5Dmk 3 . There are two to choose from the Tamron and the Canon. I am not worried about the weight of the Canon lens. I just want the sharpest of the two. I am led to believe the Canon is a little faster on focusing. I have been looking for about six months or so and I still can't choose between the two. I have an 18-70 Sigma 100-400 1 Canon and a 150-600mm Sigma. I am also thinking of getting a 70-200 f2.8 Canon instead of the 28-300. Thanks for any suggestions. Graham

I used a friend's 28-300 in the Galapagos a few months ago. Could not be more pleased with the results. As sharp on my 5d iii as anything I have seen. Loved being able to move from 28 to 300 without changing the lens. The islands are not a good place to change the lens due to wind and sand. The weight was not a factor at all with only hiking an hour per outing. I did decide to buy the 100-400 ii since I have the 16-35 2.8 iii. I will be able to change the lenses in most of the locations I plan to visit. The 28-300 is an older technology, but I think that it is exceptional, even at 300mm. Can't go wrong.

The canon is way better than the Tamron. And the 70-200 F2.8 Canon is in an other league altogether when it comes to image quality. I would pass on the 28-300, even though it is the best of that focal length range - better even than the Nikon, which in my opinion is awful on full frame, but better on crop sensors.

Thanks for that I am leaning towards the 70-200.
