Issues following recent upgrade to Lightroom Classic CC

Is anyone having these issues and what are you doing about it. My Lightroom is now slower, it locks up on a whim, won't allow catalog to update upon closing, have to shut down machine. Have reloaded twice and done several other things. Becoming very frustrating. Have been using LR for eons, usually can figure it out. No one helping on LR forum. Like they say, there are more fish in the sea, maybe time to try something else.

Did you call Adobe? They should be able to trouble-shoot.

Before you call, however, check the web site to be sure the hardware and operating system you are using are fully supported. And check all your settings and preferences to make sure they make sense for your equipment and workflow needs.

Is your computer due for an OS upgrade? I've had LR incompatibility issues with out of date Windows 10. Fixed by upgrading OS.

I love these kinds of questions.

What computer?
What configuration is in the machine?
What operating system are you using?
How much free space do you have on your hard drive?

It's like going to the doctor and telling him "IT HURTS!" - tells the doctor nothing other than you are in pain.

Sorry for the rant, but if you really expect someone here to help you, then you need to fill in the blanks.

Wow, I'm so excited with the response. As a result of the first response I did more digging in LR troubleshooting section. Had gone through most but didn't check if I were an administrator user. Doing that seemed to speed up things quite a bit, and the frequency of lock ups diminished but still occur, sometimes system is very slow.

I am running a 2.5 Ghz i7-4710 with 16 GB RAM, 64-bit OS, Windows 10 Home (up to date), Intel HD Graphics 4600 (up to date), approx. 1 TB remaining on a 6 TB WD External HDD.

Thanks for your thoughts.

*There* is a potential problem.

Conventional, rotational hard drives should not be filled up. 2/3 to 3/4 full is about tops, if you want speed.

You MAY get a smidge more speed by defragmenting a conventional hard drive.

You can get up to a third more I/O speed if you upgrade from a 5400 RPM drive to a 7200 RPM drive.

You can speed up your OS and applications significantly by installing an SSD drive and running all software from that.

More RAM will give you a minor performance improvement — after around 24GB, the law of diminishing marginal returns sets in.

Thank you burkphoto! I have been concerned about the Ext drive size. It makes sense. Been looking around for another large drive. All of my programs are on the C drive which is a 256 SSD and about 2/5 full. I assume it is 5400 RPM. I may try to transfer files to reduce the size of the ext drive and see if that makes a difference. I will attempt a defrag also.

SSD drives are solid state. They don’t have moving platters. But your 6 TB might well be 5400 RPM.
